In the fold - Pleats at work!

A look that I'm loving right now - and seeing all over town -  is prepster chic. While I'm not usually into the prepster look, when you mix this with a little leopard, it turns into something that I can really sink my teeth into!  (so to speak.)

A great way to jump into this trend is with a school-girl pleated skirt.  This is done best when it's in a vibrant hue.  The number one rule: stay away from plaid! (no Britney Spears comparisons here).  In order to "funk-up" your pleated skirt a little bit, I would add a fabulous leopard top and some killer black heels. You can go a little edgier than you usually would at work because of the lady-ness of the skirt.  Throw on some chunky stone jewelry and cinch your blouse at the waist and you're too cool for school! (or the office).

Classed-up Cutoffs

Happy Thursday Readers!
This spring, you may have already noticed, cutoff shorts are EVERYWHERE!  This left a few of my best friends asking me, "Can I wear cutoffs or should I leave it to the tweens?"  Fear not, fashionista friends...you, too can pull off cutoffs.  The key is to class them up a bit.  First, you want to be sure that you've got the right fit on your shorts.  Buy them somewhat loose so that they nestle right on your hipbones.  You DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT want tight cutoffs...unless you're going for the trailer park chic look.  Also, for those of us who have crossed over into our 30s (still weird to say), you do not want them too short.

Next, find a neutral, loose fitting tank to pair with your shorts.  You also don't wnat this to be super fitted. The gauzier and floatier the better. Top that off with a crisp, white blazer. This lends a bit of chic to your cutoffs.  Pop that collar and throw on a dainty necklace and ethnic inspired bangles.  Now that's a classy cutoff look!

A Country-Chic Wedding

A dear, old (in tenure, not age!) friend of mine contacted me the other day with a fashion dilemma.  She has been invited to a country singer's wedding and has no idea what to wear!  Listen to this dress code:

"Attire is Country Cocktail
Think: Denim and Diamonds, Shiny and Starched.
Girls: Forget those heels, and put on your cutest and most comfortable boots or shoes."

You all know I'm up for any challenge, but even this one gave me pause.  First of all, I think this could be the most fun wedding ever!  With all of this comfy footwear, guests are destined to boot-scoot the night away!  Second of all, you still want to look super fabulous and event appropriate.  My suggestion would be a flirty, flippy dress in a beautiful hue.  You definitely want to do as instructed and wear boots, but you must find the most fabulous, blingy boots out there!  I love these from Frye!  Pick some equally blingy, standout jewels and a coordinating clutch.  Voila!  Or should I say, Yeehaw!

Speaking out fabulously on behalf of marriage equality....in Prada, nonetheless.

Back to Work - Working Girl Tuesdays

Getting back to the real world after a weekend vacay can be a challenge.  But, there always comes a time to hang up that bikini, put on big girl clothes and get back to it.  My fix is to throw on a great dress that is easy and flowy. (Because if you're like me, massive gourmet dinners and lots of champagne are a big part of my vacation)  With that, just throw on some neutral sandals and gold jewelry.  Also, if your return - like mine- is to weather that is less that perfect, you will need a cozy scarf as well.  Now, back to conquering the work world!

White Hot night on the town!

Now that we've covered traveling and lounging poolside glamorously.  It's time to take this vacation out on the town!  For our big dinner and night out I'm donning an all-white super-fitted dress (that will show off my newly purchased tan perfectly) and my favorite strappy nude Louboutins. I'm thinking tonight is the night to pile on the gold accessories. I love this stack of bangles and huge cocktail ring. And, of course, I'll be toting my super chic clutch that I so brilliantly stashed in my carry on!  Look who's ready for a party!

Poolside Glamour

So, once we've landed in beautiful Miami I must have the perfect poolside ensemble to change into.  Here's a simply fabulous look that will turn anyone into a bathing beauty.  (Even someone who dragged their tired body out of bed at 3:00 am to make the early morning flight).

First of all, I am all about a solid swimsuit.  Most of mine are black, white or a solid vibrant hue.  It makes accessorizing easy, and keeps it classic. The other thing I'm loving right now is a caftan.  DVF did some fantastic versions this spring.  The great thing about using a caftan or even a dress as a coverup is you are brunch/cocktail hour-ready at any time!  You could even do a little shopping....you know, if there's time.

Bienvenido a Miami!!

Well, it's almost here.....the dreaded 30th birthday.  However, I'm not going to be sad or pathetic about it.  Instead, I've decided it is going to be one of the most fabulous years so far.  In order to kick off this splendid year in grand fashion, a fantastic group of friends and family are accompanying me for a Miami getaway!  So, let's get packing!

When jet-setting to any tropical paradise, I would generally suggest an all white ensemble.  However, I will be getting an airbrush tan late the night before we take off (I want to be at my deepest, darkest when we land!) so black is a must. I love the idea of traveling in a floaty maxi dress, to keep your legs warm and cozy on the plane (which will, no doubt, be frigid).  Of course you need one piece of statement jewelry (easy off and on in security) wedges (ditto) a hat and huge sunnies.  Be certain that your wedges coordinate with ensembles you will be packing and that your hat works well with your swimmies!  Another trick - choose a carry on that will double as a beach bag.  Store your credit cards, cash and mobile in a small clutch - the one that you will be using while out on the town!

We're all set for take off....Bring on the private plane!  OK, the crowded, recirculated air-filled cabin.

The Ultimate Fashion Fete - The 2011 Metropolitan Costume Institute Gala

Please pardon the interruption from our regularly scheduled "Working Girl Chic Tuesday."  But, there is a fashion emergency!  Last night was the MET Gala in New York City - the one event that is certain to bring out the fashion set in full force. While the Oscars are glamorous, and the Grammys entertaining they really do not hold a stylish candle to the MET gala.  This is where fashion icons take big risks and create moments that we, fashion followers, will remember for years to come.  This year the MET ball celebrates the opening of the "Alexander Mcqueen, Savage Beauty" exhibition and many of the chic attendees chose to wear the late, great designer's iconic work. Here are a few -

Gisele in McQueen

SJP in McQueen - One of my favorite looks at the gala!

Salma Hayek in McQueen
Another trend that continued on the red carpet was beautiful, vibrant COLOR!

Brooklyn Decker in Michael Kors

Diana Agron with Michael Kors - her date for the evening (who also looks a bit like a bodyguard in this pic!)

Jennifer Lopez in Gucci - Another favorite!

Ginnifer Goodwin in Topshop (I know, Topshop....weird, huh?)

Mary Kate Olsen in vintage Givenchy - digging the boho evening look
Other ladies went "Au Naturel" in nude and blush tones.

Taylor Swift in J. Mendel

Liv Tyler in Givenchy Haute Couture

Very preggers Kate Hudson in Stella McCartney

Gwynnie in Stella McCartney - dying over this look.

Dakota Fanning in Valentino

Karl Lagerfeld and Blake Lively in Chanel Haute couture....we haven't yet discussed her newly auburn tresses, do we like?

Trussed up - Some ladies chose some seriously corseted looks.  So very hot, although there's not much room for champagne!

Christina Ricci in Zac Posen

Beyonce in Emilio Pucci

Rumer Willis in Badgley Mischka Couture

Lucy Liu in Vionnet

And then, there is the queen mum of all things stylish and fabulous.....

Anna Wintour in Chanel Haute Couture (with a glimpse of Andre Leon Talley in the background....LOVE!)

Lacy lady - Taking a cue from the princess.

Happy Monday Fashion Friends!
Coming down from the high that was this weekend's royal wedding, I think it is important to make those hours I spent in front of the telly on Friday feel somewhat productive.  I loved the dress, and of course immediately thought of the beautiful Princess Grace Kelly when Catherine emerged from the Rolls Royce.  But, beyond that, I think the elegant gown could spawn a lace craze in fashion.  We've actually seen a lot of lace on the runways in the past couple of seasons, but I'm wondering if the now historic and iconic lace gown will push that trend into overdrive.  Don't worry readers, you will be prepared!  Here is my take on the ladylike lace look!
