Getting back to the real world after a weekend vacay can be a challenge. But, there always comes a time to hang up that bikini, put on big girl clothes and get back to it. My fix is to throw on a great dress that is easy and flowy. (Because if you're like me, massive gourmet dinners and lots of champagne are a big part of my vacation) With that, just throw on some neutral sandals and gold jewelry. Also, if your return - like mine- is to weather that is less that perfect, you will need a cozy scarf as well. Now, back to conquering the work world!

Poolside Glamour
So, once we've landed in beautiful Miami I must have the perfect poolside ensemble to change into. Here's a simply fabulous look that will turn anyone into a bathing beauty. (Even someone who dragged their tired body out of bed at 3:00 am to make the early morning flight).
First of all, I am all about a solid swimsuit. Most of mine are black, white or a solid vibrant hue. It makes accessorizing easy, and keeps it classic. The other thing I'm loving right now is a caftan. DVF did some fantastic versions this spring. The great thing about using a caftan or even a dress as a coverup is you are brunch/cocktail hour-ready at any time! You could even do a little shopping....you know, if there's time.

Bienvenido a Miami!!
Well, it's almost here.....the dreaded 30th birthday. However, I'm not going to be sad or pathetic about it. Instead, I've decided it is going to be one of the most fabulous years so far. In order to kick off this splendid year in grand fashion, a fantastic group of friends and family are accompanying me for a Miami getaway! So, let's get packing!
When jet-setting to any tropical paradise, I would generally suggest an all white ensemble. However, I will be getting an airbrush tan late the night before we take off (I want to be at my deepest, darkest when we land!) so black is a must. I love the idea of traveling in a floaty maxi dress, to keep your legs warm and cozy on the plane (which will, no doubt, be frigid). Of course you need one piece of statement jewelry (easy off and on in security) wedges (ditto) a hat and huge sunnies. Be certain that your wedges coordinate with ensembles you will be packing and that your hat works well with your swimmies! Another trick - choose a carry on that will double as a beach bag. Store your credit cards, cash and mobile in a small clutch - the one that you will be using while out on the town!
We're all set for take off....Bring on the private plane! OK, the crowded, recirculated air-filled cabin.

Orange and Turquoise - A fabulously brilliant combination!
Happy Fashionable Friday Readers!
Look at this beautiful Vogue Mexico cover of the "curvy" Crystal Renn. I am so taken with this color combination of orange and turquoise. It immediately makes me dream of being oceanside with a very fruity cocktail in hand. The good news is, we have a beach vacation in the works. The bad news is, it's not for a few months. However, we can make this tropical feeling a part of our every day lives with this brilliant color combination!
My take on the look is this hot little Missoni dress with some beautiful turquoise jewelry and clutch. This is perfect for a dinner date or a night out on the town. I always have a little white blazer handy in the warm months (in case a restaurant goes overboard on the AC). And I think these cutout booties are a perfect way to "toughen up" the ensemble a little. If you wanted to elongate your legs and have less emphasis on the shoe you could do a nude pump instead. With that, you're ready to salsa at a beachside club, or bring a slice of the tropics to a hot restaurant in your own hometown. Ole!!!

"Orange you glad it's Tuesday!" - Working Girl Chic
Welcome to another installment of "Working Girl Chic Tuesdays!" Since I'm in a very colorful mood this week, I thought it would be fun to punch up our work ensemble with some bright hues. One of my favorite colors to accessorize with is orange. Winter or summer, orange will brighten and refine any humdrum outfit. Because it is quintessentially Hermes, orange also acts to "class up" your look. I love the look of an orange belt and bag with a neutral pant or skirt. However, seeing as how we are creeping up on spring, I thought - Let's take it to another level! I chose to pair my classic white button down and orange accessories with a cobalt blue pencil skirt. Toughen up this classy ensemble with an oversized watch and chain bracelet. What do you think? I think, I'm glad it's Working Girl Chic Tuesday!

A Fabulous Crop - Working Girl Chic Tuesday
Happy Working Girl Chic Tuesday Readers!
As it gets warmer and warmer, your work wardrobe should evolve as well. While you still must dress appropriately, things get a little lighter and just slightly more casual. I think a great way to adapt to warmer weather is to adopt the cropped pant. Here are a few runway examples:
The cropped pant - especially in khaki or white - will transform your boring suit wardrobe in a brightly chic spring look. If your workplace is extremely conservative, shop for a crop that hits exactly at the ankle. Otherwise, just try a few options to determine which one most flatters your figure. Once you've made your perfect selecation, throw on an interesting jacket (preferrably in coral tones - THE shade of the season) and a touch of turqoise jewelry. Be certain to add a pair of sky high heels to elongate your legs and you're ready to work it!!

Green With Envy!
It's Monday again, Dear Readers!
While we are all headed off to accomplish our regular old day-to-day tasks (work, grocery shopping, taking care of children or husbands) it's nice to have a little glimpse into the life of the famous and fabulous. Or so I thought as I was gazing enviously at the party pics from Chanel's fete in honor of Blake Lively. She looks glowing and stunning as usual. The beautiful ensemble she wore for the occasion inspired today's look.
I am absolutely in love with the neutral palette of her dress and shoes with just the pop of green in her earrings. This got me thinking, this is something we should all be doing! We always think of a pop of color in a handbag or a shoe, but why not in a beautiful pair of emerald earrings? A bright green earring highlights the face and will have everyone else green with envy!
I've put together a look that could easily be worn to the office. However the same ensemble - sans jacket - could be perfect for a date night or a party. Either way, be certain to pull your hair back in a messy bun (a la Miss Lively) so that your eye-candy earrings are front and center! Keep all of the accessories neutral and you're ready to glow!

A Casual White-Out
Some days, especially when I'm dressing casually, I like to keep it simple. That's not to say "minimalist," we've already covered that trend. When I say "simple" I mean easy to throw together (but still look put together). I once heard someone in the fashion world say that she wore all black during the winter and all white in the summer. Although I'm not that hardcore (I like to throw in a print or a pop of color every so often), I do like the idea of that. Being so chic and having such a definite look that you can sum it all up in a statement. While I'm still looking for my statement, I will share with you, that I wear a ton of head-to-toe white in the spring and summer. This look is so fresh and chic, yet so easy to pull together quickly.
When I'm doing a casual head-to-toe-blanc look I always pull out my favorite pair of white hudson jeans. Just like with your blue jeans, you should have multiple pairs of white jeans tailored to different heel heights. You can do this head-to-toe-white look with a great pair of high espadrilles or with some metallic flat sandals. Whichever you choose, put it all back to a great white blouse. There are so many fabulous white blouses to choose from this spring, so your options are limitless! I'm loving the look of the gauzy utility blouse I found below. Add some beautiful gold jewelry (you know how I love my cocktail rings and bangles!) and you're casual but perfectly posh!

In the Trenches - Working Girl Chic Tuesday
Welcome to another "Working Girl Chic Tuesday!" Today there is a little nip in the air and it made me think about the importance of the trench coat. This key item really should have a special place in your work wardrobe. It's perfect for early spring and late fall when you're not quite in heavy jackets, but it's not yet time for a lighter piece. There are so many incarnations of the trench and, if you just take a little time, you are certain to find one that is perfect for you! I absolutely adore the one below. The little flounce at the neck gives a feminine touch, but the epaulets and traditional khaki color say, "I mean business!"
Below, I've shown you a couple of options of how to wear this essential piece. I think, with the importance of the wide leg pant this spring, a pair of black trousers and a silky top would be just beautiful. For a warmer day you can pair it with a classic black sheath dress and some beautiful heels. Notice that I've chosen to accent today's ensembles with leopard. Remember that leopard can serve as a neutral, so feel free to throw in a little color with your ensemble if you want something brighter! Accent your look with some gold jewelry and you're ready to go!

In bloom - Working girl chic Tuesdays
Happy Spring dear readers!
Ok, so maybe we aren't completely there yet. But, with the beautiful weather we are having in Big D a girl can dream! So, here is a little "Working Girl Chic Tuesday" post to put some spring in your step. Florals were a huge influence this spring and they absolutely must find their way into your spring work wardrobe. While you may think florals in your work wardrobe would not be "serious" enough. I can assure you, you too can work in a beautiful floral print dress this spring.
The first key is to find the right floral print dress for you. The Ali Ro dress I have chosen below is definitely of the "girly" varietal, but perhaps you prefer a more bohemian or earthy vibe. Either way, you will be right on trend as there was a great variance on the spring runways. Top off your frilly frock with a structured sleeveless vest belted at the waist. I am on the hunt for a fabulous sleeveless blazer this season and I think the one below is perfection! This will add seriousness and structure to your ensemble. Just accessorize with some bangles and gold earrings and you will be all set!
Remember, the key is to juxtapose the serious with the fun. And do not hide your femininity this spring....flaunt it in beautiful florals!

Boho Chic - a spring wardrobe inspiration.
Happy Fashionable Friday Readers!
It's the most stylish time of the year as fashion week began yesterday in New York. As your diligent style arbiter I spent last evening flipping through pictures of the shows and parties to bring the very best to you. That was when I ran across this picture of the beautiful Blake Lively in Alexander McQueen at the Amfar gala. I love that she does "California cool" even at a fashion-y gala in NYC. Stunning!
It inspired me to continue contemplating spring and what I need to add to my wardrobe to look fresh and modern. I think a bohemian patio dress is a must this season. While the patio dress is certainly not new, the bohemian prints were all over the runway this spring. Blake looks fabulous in her bohemian evening gown, but for an everyday look I would suggest wearing your patio dress to a pool party or to brunch with friends. It's an easy way to look casually cool. Always pair with flat sandals and an armful of bangles. Don't forget your oversized sunnies and a crossbody bag.
Our spring wardrobe is really coming together! Now, all we need is some sunshine!

Romancing the ensemble - Valentine's Day!
Valentine's Day means different things to different people. For some, it is a day to be unabashedly romantic and sickly sweet with their significant other. For others, it is a day of dread or aggravation. For me, it is truly neither. Rather, it is a day to dress in head-to-toe pink, drink pink champagne and indulge in all things girly and romantic. That means, for one day a year, I ditch my black duds and don something feminine and beautiful. Now, you might wearing pink is impossible for you (particularly if your skin, like mine, hasn't seen the sun in months). But do not fret! All you need is a quick application of Guerlain Terracotta self bronzer (one of my ultimate beauty secrets) and you will be pastel ready in a matter of moments.
As for the ensemble, this year I'm loving something draping and dramatic for Valentine's Day. How lovely is the dress below? Just add a pink statement necklace, flirtatious black lace pumps and a dainty clutch and you are date ready! Bring on the romance, the bubbly and the pink bouquet! Happy heart day to all!

Rocking the wide leg jeans
So, I have this great friend who has a fabulous job at a super cool company. So cool, in fact, that she can wear jeans to work! Wouldn't we all love that? Well, don't be too jealous. It's actually much more complicated than you would think to put together a fabulously work appropriate jean ensemble. But, once again, dress code diaries to the rescue!
As I mentioned in my pantsuit post, one of my favorite spring trends is definitely the wide leg pant. Universally flattering and utterly cool, this trend is one that you must take advantage of this season. In particular, the wide leg jean is making a huge comeback. Luckily for my friend (and you other lucky ducks who can wear jeans to work...even if it's just on casual Friday), this is a perfect trend for the workplace!
While the wide leg jean is quintessentially '70s (and I am ever-inspired by that time period), be careful to pair them with very modern accessories so as to not look like you are in costume. For me, the easiest way to do that is to add rocker-chic accessories. A beautiful sheer blouse with a fitted blazer and chain accessories creates the perfect look. In fact, while perfectly work appropriate, this would also be a fabulous date night look! That's what we love....fashionable versatility!

Working Girl Chic - Channeling spring during a snowstorm
It's a snowy Tuesday here in big D. Yes, it was seriously 75 degrees here this weekend and now it's 12 degrees. Like they say here in Texas, if you don't like the weather, just wait an hour.
But, all of this snow and ice has me thinking on this "Working Girl Chic Tuesday." It's February, meaning that all a girl can find in the store are new spring pieces. That can be a bit discouraging. After all, one thing I hate is making new purchases and having them sit in my closet for a couple of months. But, do not despair, dress code diaries to the rescue! When I buy work wear items I like to find things that (with just a bit of tweaking) can be worn year round. Particularly, I love sleeveless sheath dresses in bright prints like the one below. Just add a long sleeve, bow-neck blouse, tights and booties and you're ready for winter. Once the weather finally gets warmer you can wear sandals and a chunky, bohemian-inspired necklace and be right on trend. The best part is, these booties can work great with tights when it's frigid or with a bare leg in the spring (because of the peeptoe and woven design....think of them as a versatile sandal). I also love a nod to spring with a structured coral bag like this one from Topshop.
When you begin making your wardrobe pieces work for you in multiple ways and in various seasons you can exponentially expand your wardrobe! So, don't get frustrated with winter....get creative!

Winter Weekend Getaway
Happy Fashionable Friday! It's been freezing cold here in the city, so it seemed like the perfect time to have a relaxing getaway at my family's lakehouse. While our country weekend should be somewhat relaxing, we are sure to have guests over for cocktails and appy's. So, (you know me!) I'm taking this as yet another occasion to create the perfect ensemble.
I love this Missoni sweater coat (cozy and colorful). It's ideal over skinny chocolate brown cords with fabulously furry duck boots. Add in some nature-inspired earings, the perfect weekender bag and a couple (OK, MANY) bottles of wine. Cheers to the weekend, friends!

Casual Date night with the Hubby!
I'm so excited to have been asked on a fabulous date night with a devastatingly handsome gentleman. Ok, he's my husband....but after a week away, I'm so excited to catch up at our favorite restaurant over wine and delicious fare. Let this be a tip to all the married ladies....treat every date with your husband as an occasion to look your most fabulous. It keeps your wardrobe selection exciting and, hey, if you're going to dress up for someone, shouldn't it be your better half?
For a dinner such as this, I am planning to wear my black skinnies, a silky nude blouse topped off by a furry vest. I will, of course, be in my signature black stiletto booties. To make the outfit a little more modern and casual throw on a crossbody bag in a punchy color. The perfect final touch is an interesting cuff and missoni inspired earrings.
Voila! Your hubby will think you worked on that fab outfit all day long (just like back in your early dating days)

Working Girl Chic
A much requested topic, and one that can be quite challenging....even for the fashion obsessed like me, is how to build a stylish yet appropriate work wardrobe. This is certainly a topic that will become a weekly installment. It is simply too much to cover in one post. So, let's get started!
I think the basis for a great work wardrobe starts with a few staples. The first of which is a fabulous black sheath dress. (Or, if you're anything like me, a few different classic black sheaths.) It's always great to have these basic to fall back on when you just don't feel like pulling it all together. I am not, however, suggesting that you throw on that black dress with black pumps and a cardigan. That is not eye-catching enough for you, lovely reader! Instead merely use it as a base on which to layer something with a little flair. If your dress is the appropriate length (to the knee if you are on the taller side or right above the knee if you're on the petite side), then you have creative license to add some excitement! Start out with a great motorcycle jacket, statement necklace and some not-so-basic black pumps. Contrasting the classic with something unexpected is the first key to keeping your work wardrobe exciting!

Breaking Fashion News - First date!
I have just received some news that a very dear friend of mine has a first date this weekend. Although it is nearly 1:00 AM, I am always on call for you, lovely readers! So, here are my thoughts for making a great impression on a first date. You want something that shows off your figure while not being over the top. Pick the features you want to accentuate and find something that highlights those assets. For cold weather, a great dress with tights and boots are a perfect option. (Tip: boys love boots....don't ask me why, but it's true.) So, I happen to know that this lovely has fabulous legs and decolette. So I've chosen a long sleeve, v-neck, mini dress in a beautiful rich print. I would style it with a great cocktail ring and jacket with some luxe texture. Voila! First date fabulousness!

Flying fabulously
I am currently preparing for a trip north to see my very best friend (and posh politico) in Washington DC. While I have much packing to do, my first order of business is always determining what to wear on the plane. This brings me to the first of a few of my pet peeves. This one is concerning the current state of affairs at airports around the country. Flying was once such a glamorous affair. Men in suits and ties, women in beautiful dresses and pillbox hats all carrying matching luggage. After all, you never see more people than you do when strutting through the airport. But now, you are lucky if your seatmate managed to shower and change out of their pajamas. Tennis shoes, ball caps, hoodies....oh my! I, for one, am over it! Unfortunately, since flying private is still just a dream away, commercial airlines are a necessity. So, I'm doing my part and stepping it up a notch every time I fly. I hope you'll join me!
Now that the rant is behind us, here are my thoughts on perfect flight attire. When choosing what to wear, I always think of fashion first followed closely by comfort and functionality. In this chilly weather I prefer a pair of skinnies (skinny black pants or jeans), a fitted turtleneck and high heeled booties. YES, high heels! You can do it. I promise. They will distinguish you from the pajama set and are easy to slip on and off in security. Plus, in case your trip goes to hell in a handbasket (aka delayed flights and bouncing gate to gate), you should always have backup flats in your carryon. A little tip is to coordinate your travel booties and backup flats with a couple of packed ensembles. Then you won't have to pack 15 pairs of shoes in your suitcase....a sin I am still guilty of. At the risk of being cliche, shoes are truly my obsession. This is also my little attempt to curtail the extra expense (and added frustration on my husband's part) of paying for overweight checked luggage. Finally, top it all off with a beautiful cashmere cape. I love the one below with mink trim. What a chic way to travel! Plus, it will double as a cozy blanket while in flight. The finishing touches are a giant pair of sunnies (to keep the jersey-wearing man next to you from attempting conversation) and a statement necklace that is easily removed in the security line. With these stylish pieces you are ready to take flight (and get noticed while doing so!)
